ABSTRACT

Objective @#To study smile exposure in 20- to 30-year-olds with convex facial profiles and to explore the correlation between smile exposure and other aesthetic indicators, as well as psychological factors. @*Methods @# This study obtained ethical approval from the hospital. After they gave informed consent and portrait authorization, 80 young subjects aged 20-30 with convex facial profiles had their dynamic postural smile and spontaneous laughter recorded. The videos were imported into Photoshop CC software, key frames were selected, and the smile exposure was measured. The three-dimensional information of the subject's face in a resting state was obtained, the relevant aesthetic indicators were measured, and the satisfaction degree of their smile and laughter were evaluated. Correlation analysis was conducted for smile exposure and the relevant aesthetic indicators and subjective psychological evaluation.@*Results @# There were statistically significant differences in smile exposure, smile patterns, relevant aesthetic indicators and subjective psychological evaluation between males and females aged 20 to 30 (P<0.05). There was a large gap between males and females in the average opening degree when laughing, males having 5 times that of females, while the average gingival exposure height of the maxillary central incisor in males was approximately 1/2 of that in females. The average nasolabial angle of males (99.80° ± 7.96°) was larger than that of females (96.26° ± 7.31°) (P<0.05), while the average ratio of upper lip length to the length of the lower 1/3 of the face of males (33.73% ± 2.35%) was less than that of females (38.57% ± 2.76%) (P<0.05). The average psychological score of males (57.75±13.46) was higher than that of females (53.69±17.95) (P<0.05). The ratios of maxillary teeth and gingival exposure to oral fissure in the postural smile were positively correlated with the nasolabial angle. The oral fissure width in spontaneous laughter was negatively correlated with psychological score.@*Conclusion @# Convex-faced males and females aged 20 to 30 have different smile exposures and smile patterns. Males tend to smile more openly with a larger opening and less gingival exposure, while females tend to grin with a small opening and more gingival exposure. Smile exposure is positively correlated with nasolabial angle and negatively correlated with smile satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Although stages T3 and T4 rectal cancer can be reduced to T1 or T2 after neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy, the accuracy of the endorectal ultrasonography (ERUS) for the post-radiochemotherapy evaluation of low rectal cancer has seldom been reported. We aimed to investigate the value of ERUS in the assessment of invasion staging in low rectal cancer with local progression, and the factors affecting its accuracy, after neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy. A total of 114 patients administered with neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy for stages II and III low rectal cancer (local stage T3/T4) from February 2018 to December 2020 were enrolled in the study. The changes in local lesions were evaluated using ERUS before and after radiochemotherapy, and compared with the pathological T staging. The accuracy of post-neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy re-staging examined with ERUS was evaluated, and univariate analysis was used to identify the factors affecting the accuracy. After neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy, the blood flow distribution within the lesion significantly declined (P<0.05), the max length and max thickness of the longitudinal axis of the lesion were reduced (P<0.05), and the uT staging was decreased (P<0.05), when compared with lesions before the treatment. Compared with postoperative pathological T staging, the accuracies of ERUS in T1, T2, T3 and T4 stages were 11.11%, 28.57%, 27.27% and 100%, respectively. Univariate analysis indicated that review time of ERUS, post-operative T staging and Wheeler rectal regression stage were factors affecting the accuracy of ERUS re-staging. ERUS is more accurate for T4 re-staging, follow-up reviewed six weeks after neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy and low regression tumors, with a high application value for the assessment of the efficacy of neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy for low rectal cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the effect of treatment dentures on changes in denture space in edentulous patients and to evaluate its clinical effect.@* Methods@#Twenty patients with treatment dentures were investigated with a questionnaire and Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) before and after treatment. The denture space, denture tissue surface, occlusal points, Gothic arch images, mucosal condition, lateral occlusal condition, bite force, retention and stability, patient mastication ability, denture satisfaction, and OHIP-14 score were collected for statistical analysis.@*Results @# After wearing treatment dentures, the denture space significantly improved, the tissue conditioners on the treatment denture gradually began to be distributed, and the occlusal points gradually became symmetrical. The gothic arch images showed that the joints, nerves, and muscles gradually stabilized. The mucosal condition changed to a healthy state. The lateral occlusal conditions were improved. There were also significant differences in the bite force, retention and stability, subjective and objective chewing ability, satisfaction with the denture and OHIP-14 score before and after treatment (P < 0.05). The objective chewing ability was positively correlated with the retention stability of the denture, the subjective chewing ability and the satisfaction of the denture, and it was negatively correlated with OHIP-14.@* Conclusion@#Treatment dentures could help to restore denture space to an ideal condition and improve the oral health of patients. This treatment could also improve the retention and stability of the denture and the chewing ability to improve patient satisfaction. This treatment has clinical application value and promotion potential.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE In view of the high incidence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the unsatisfactory therapeutic effects of dimethyldiguanide or clomifene citrate alone, our study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of dimethyldiguanide combined with clomifene citrate in the treatment of PCOS. METHODS A total of 79 patients with POCS and 35 healthy females were included, and endometrial biopsies were obtained. The sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1 (SREBP1) expression in endometrial tissues was detected by qRT-PCR. POC patients were randomly divided into group A (n=40) and group B (n=39). Patients in group A were treated with dimethyldiguanide combined with clomifene citrate, while patients in group B were treated with clomifene citrate alone. The number of mature follicles and cervical mucus score, follicular development rate and single follicle ovulation rate, cycle pregnancy rate, early miscarriage rate, ovulation rate, endometrial thickness, positive rate of three lines sign, follicle stimulating hormone level and luteinizing hormone level were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The expression level of SREBP1 was higher in PCOS patients than that in the healthy control. SREBP1 expression was inhibited after treatment, while the inhibitory effects of combined treatment were stronger than those of clomifene citrate alone. Compared with clomifene citrate alone, the combined treatment improved cervical mucus score, follicle development rate, single follicle ovulation rate, endometrial thickness, positive rate of three lines sign, and follicle-stimulating hormone level. CONCLUSION The therapeutic effect of combined treatment is better than clomifene citrate alone in the treatment of PCOS.

ABSTRACT

Background/Aim: Percutaneous thermal ablation combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) becomes a treatment option for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aims to investigate the safety and feasibility of percutaneous thermal ablation combined with simultaneous TACE for patients with HCC ≤ 5 cm. Materials and Methods: From June 2010 to February 2017, a total of 280 patients with HCC ≤ 5 cm who underwent percutaneous thermal ablation combined with simultaneous TACE were included in our study. Their clinical data were collected and analyzed. Results: Major complications occurred in five cases (1.8%). The complete necrosis rate was 91.9%. The median overall survival (OS) was 66.5 months (95% confidence interval [CI] = 57.7–75.2). The OS rates in 1-, 3-, 5-, and 7-year were 96.7%, 76.0%, 59.7%, and 31.1%, respectively. Tumor size (hazard ratio = 1.826; 95% CI = 1.131–2.947; P = 0.014) was considered as independent prognostic factors of long-term survival. Conclusion: Percutaneous thermal ablation combined with simultaneous TACE is a safe and effective treatment for HCC ≤ 5 cm.
